My name is Emily Genovese, MS, ATR-BC, LCAT and I have been treating patients for 14 years in Rochester and surrounding communities. Throughout my years working with individuals, couples, and families I have had the opportunity to practice in multiple clinic and community based settings before starting my private practice.
In 2003 I graduated from Nazareth College where I received my Masters Degree in Art Therapy. As an art therapist I have been trained to work with people of all ages across a broad spectrum of practice. Guided by ethical standards and scope of practice, my education and supervised training prepared me for culturally proficient work with diverse populations in a variety of settings. Honoring individuals' values and beliefs, art therapists work with people who are challenged with medical and mental health problems, as well as individuals seeking emotional, creative, and spiritual growth.
Through integrative methods, art therapy engages the mind, body, and spirit in ways that are distinct from verbal articulation alone. Kinesthetic, sensory, perceptual, and symbolic opportunities invite alternative modes of receptive and expressive communication, which can circumvent the limitations of language. Visual and symbolic expression gives voice to experience, and empowers individual, communal, and societal transformation.*
After graduating from Nazareth College, I began working as a Primary Therapist at Genesee County Mental Health Services providing mental health care and treatment, as well as consultation services at United Memorial Medical Center. I continued my work at Rochester Rehabilitation Services, Inc. where I met with individuals and provided group therapy services in the areas of anger management, trauma, and art therapy. I also worked for many years with children and families in Fairport, NY.
I specialize in working with individuals, but I also enjoy helping families. The number of families treated at any given time is limited due to the intensity and frequency of your individualized care. Whether its coping with anxiety or depression, increasing assertiveness and communication, working through family conflict, or processing trauma, I will help you achieve your personal goals. Sharing in life’s journeys with the individuals, families, and community is something I take pride in, and feel honored to be a part of.
